Research and Programs- 21 Brownfields 2004 Assessment Grant Fact Sheet: Waukegan, IL
- EPA has selected the City of Waukegan for a brownfields assessment grant. Hazardous substances grant funds will be used to perform a site investigation based on the findings of an earlier expanded site investigation at a 12-acre former scrap yard property. Petroleum grant funds will be used to perform Phase I and Phase II site assessments at an 18-acre inactive railroad facility on the Lake Michigan lakefront.

- EPA has selected the City of Rock Falls for a brownfields assessment grant. Grant funds will be used to conduct community involvement activities, perform Phase I and II site assessments for sites in the Rock Falls Riverfront Redevelopment Area, and formulate cleanup plans.

Grant funds also will be used to prepare cleanup plans that will qualify assessed sites for state cleanup funding.

Grant funds also will be used to conduct cleanup planning and support community outreach activities. Assessments will focus on the American Bottom region of Southwestern Illinois. Petroleum funds will be used to perform the same tasks at sites with potential petroleum contamination.
