Description
The Big Muddy River, a tributary of the Mississippi River, is located in southern Illinois. It is 156 miles in length and has a drainage area of approximately 2,390 square miles. Its major tributaries include Beaucoup Creek and Little Muddy River. The Big Muddy River flows southwest, passing the outskirts of Carbondale and draining to the Mississippi River at the border between Jackson and Union counties.
